Sheppard Pratt Health System
Sheppard Pratt Health System

Construction took place on the second floor above a sensitive, occupied patient care unit, and a floor below active staff spaces. To limit disruptions to patients and staff, site access for construction personnel and material was provided via scaffolding on the exterior face of the building.

The original brick vaults providing support to the floors above and below were a testament to the quality of the craftsmanship that took place nearly 160 years ago, yet provided added difficulty to various scopes of the project. Modifications to the existing structural, masonry walls included three new doorways supported with steel headers, countless penetrations for new ductwork runs and sprinkler piping, and trenching to provide pathways for new electrical rough-ins.

The renovated wing includes six patient bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, a staff locker room, two consultation rooms, a dining room, staff kitchen, financial office, computer room, and family therapy room.

Benchmark worked with Rhoads Energy to convert an old manufacturing facility to house the company’s corporate headquarters and training facility. The project was a great example of urban adaptive reuse of a historical building and is in a Keystone Opportunity Zone in Lancaster City.

The 20,000 SF project included the renovation of an existing masonry building including new roof and windows and the exposure of portions of an original timber structure. A new three-bay garage addition was also included.

Cross Keys Village
Cross Keys Village

This new facility at Cross Keys Village consists of a single story, 32-resident, Memory Care Building with a small house design. The building follows the household model built for two groups of 16 residents with spaces allocated for living, dining, and cooking.

The households are joined by a central service core consisting of supportive spaces and one kitchen centered between each house kitchen. A semi-public area providing bistro style seating and a salon and store connects the two households to the main entrance.

Expansion and Renovation
Expansion and Renovation

Benchmark worked with Penn State Hershey Medical Center (PSHMC) on a multi-phase renovation project to realign and expand the current layout of its NMR Building.

Phase 1 of the project included the interior renovation of 1,600 SF for a cryogenic electron microscope suite, an EEG room/behavioral testing room and a 7T animal magnet suite.

Phase 2 of the project included a 2,500 SF one-story addition to add office space and a staff kitchen/break room. Benchmark managed the site work associated with the new addition and the expansion of the existing parking area required to 20 new parking spaces.
